As we gear up for the exciting Aug 12-16th youth art camp at Gallery B612, we’re thrilled to offer a range of creative classes that will inspire young artists to explore different forms of artistic expression. Led by our talented gallery curator, Kelly Cook, each class is designed to ignite imagination, foster creativity, and provide a hands-on learning experience.

Here's a sneak peek into what the young artists will dive into during the camp:

1. Storytelling Through Art: Visual Narratives

Every child has a story to tell, and this class provides the perfect canvas to bring those stories to life. Students will explore the art of visual storytelling by creating a series of drawings or paintings that depict a narrative—whether it’s a day in the life of an imaginary character or a personal adventure. The class will focus on key elements such as storyboarding, composition, and visual flow.

Activity Highlight: Story Panels Students will craft a sequence of 3-5 art panels, each one capturing a different moment in their story. These story panels will be showcased in a mini gallery walk, allowing the young artists to share their visual narratives with their peers.

2. Mixed Media Masterpieces

In this class, the possibilities are endless as students experiment with various materials and techniques to create unique mixed media artworks. From collage to painting, and even incorporating recycled objects, this class encourages creativity and innovation.

Activity Highlight: Texture Exploration Students will dive into the world of texture by incorporating materials like fabric, paper, and natural objects into their artwork. By the end of the class, each student will have produced a mixed media masterpiece that reflects their personal creativity and the exciting new techniques they’ve learned.

3. Abstract Art Adventures

Abstract art is all about expression, and this class will allow students to explore how to convey emotions, ideas, and concepts through color and form. Without relying on traditional representational forms, young artists will dive into the world of abstract art and discover the power of artistic expression.

Activity Highlight: Emotion in Color Students will use vibrant colors and dynamic shapes to convey different emotions in their artwork. These abstract paintings will be displayed together to create an "Emotion Wall," a powerful visual representation of the feelings and ideas expressed by the young artists.

4. Creative Character Design

What’s more fun than creating your own character? Whether it’s a superhero, a fantastical creature, or an entirely new invention, this class will guide students through the process of character design. They’ll learn about character development, drawing techniques, and how to bring their ideas to life on paper.

Activity Highlight: Character Profile

Students will create a detailed character profile, complete with sketches, backstory, and personality traits. Each character will be unique, and students will have the opportunity to present their creation to the group, fostering a discussion on creativity and design.

5. Air-Dry Clay Creations

Sculpture comes to life in this class as students get hands-on with air-dry clay. They’ll learn basic sculpting techniques and create their own 3D artworks, which can be taken home once dried. This tactile experience will allow young artists to explore form and texture in a whole new way.

Activity Highlight: Personal Sculptures

Each student will create a small sculpture that represents something meaningful to them—be it an animal, a character, or an abstract form. After the clay has dried, they’ll have the chance to paint or decorate their unique creation, resulting in a personalized piece of art to take home.

This year’s youth art camp is shaping up to be an unforgettable experience. With such a diverse range of classes, young artists will have the chance to explore different mediums, discover new techniques, and most importantly, express their creativity in a supportive and inspiring environment. We can’t wait to see what they create!
