Karen Chang
Chinese American b. 1986 San Jose, California ~ Seattle, Washington
Karen Chang is a Chinese American contemporary artist based in Snoqualmie, Washington, whose figurative paintings explore emotional awakening, self-worth, and inner transformation. Blending realism with symbolic and expressive elements, her work reflects her background in social psychology (PhD) and her ongoing inquiry into the quiet, formative moments of the human experience.
Chang’s paintings often depict women rendered with luminous depth, layered textures, and a balance of softness and strength. Natural motifs—such as butterflies, water, florals, and atmospheric light—serve as metaphors for resilience and personal evolution. Influenced by both Eastern and Western aesthetics, her visual language speaks to identity, belonging, and the inner self.
Trained at the Milan Art Institute, Chang combines classical oil techniques with contemporary mixed-media processes. Her work has been exhibited throughout the Seattle area, including Gallery B612 and the Best of Northwest Art Show, and is held in private collections nationwide. She is the grand prize winner of the Society of Professional Artists’ Fresh Edge Competition, first-place winner of Art Collide’s Emerging Artists International Art Competition, and multiple-award winner at the "Art Comes Alive" Exhibition at ADC Fine Art.
